Are you looking for free, outdoor concerts this summer? Typically, there are lots of great outdoor concerts in the Ann Arbor area. However, with social distancing in 2020, many of the series are being canceled. Hopefully by the end of summer, we may see smaller outdoor concerts or ones meant to be listened to from the safe confines of your socially distant car.
Ann Arbor Summer Concert Series
Ann Arbor’s Sonic Lunch sponsored by Bank of Ann Arbor usually runs all summer from early June 6 through the end of August. They have canceled their 2020 series.
Washtenaw Community Concert Band
Washtenaw Community Concert Band has canceled their schedule through September 2020. They will provide an update on the remainder of their 2020-2021 schedule in September.
Their concerts are in Towsley Auditorium in Washtenaw Community College’s Morris Lawrence Building. The concerts were free thanks to support from the Yankee Air Museum
Top of the Park
Ann Arbor Summer Festival’s Top of the Park is my favorite outdoor concert event. It typically runs for 2.5 weeks from mid-June through early July with concerts every night except Monday. The Ann Arbor Summer Festival has canceled both the 2020 Top of the Park program and the Mainstage ticketed concert series. No Events
Ann Arbor Civic Band Concerts
Ann Arbor Civic Band holds a series of concerts on Wednesday evenings in the summer at West Park. They have canceled their 2020 concert series.
Summer Carillon Concert Series
The University of Michigan typically holds a Summer Carillon Concert Series with performances at both Burton Tower (Bell Tower on Ingalls Mall) and Lurie Tower (on North Campus). They are select Mondays at 7p. The concerts will be canceled in 2020 along with other University of Michigan events.

Concert in the Park
Ann Arbor Parks hosts free concerts on Sunday afternoons at 3p in Burns Park starting the weekend after Art Fair. The concerts are free, but donations of canned goods and other non-perishable food for Community Action Network (CAN) are appreciated.
Their website still lists the 2019 series. They have not made an announcement on the 2020 series. I doubt it will happen this year.
Summer Concert Series Beyond Ann Arbor
Chelsea Sounds & Sight
Chelsea holds Sounds & Sights on Thursday nights from 6:30-8:30p from early June through August. There are musical and other performances throughout downtown. Once school lets out, the event ends with a movie at dusk.
The 2020 series and their Sounds & Sights Summer Festival are both canceled for 2020.
Manchester Gazebo Concerts
The Manchester Gazebo Concerts are held on Thursday nights from 7:30-9p (except the first week which starts at 7). They have canceled the concert series for 2020. They are holding live stream concerts on Thursday evenings through May. Maybe they will continue these through the summer.
The following concert series have not made an announcement on 2020 concerts. However, I expect them all to be canceled.
Cultivate’s Sundays in the Garden
Cultivate Coffee & TapHouse has held a series of concerts on Sunday evenings for the last few years. Each event features a different musical act, a featured brewery, and a local non-profit. They have not announced a 2020 series and I expect they won’t announce one.
Saline Summer Music Series
The Summer Music Series in Saline features a different group each night and kids activities. The Saline Main Street website is not working and I did not find any information on their Facebook page. However, I would assume that the concert series is canceled.
Dexter Summer Music Series at Monument Park
The Dexter Summer Music Series is held on Fridays at Monument Park. They still have the 2019 information on their website.
