Ann Arbor Parks to go Smoke Free!

This morning I was thrilled to see the announcement that 77 Ann Arbor Parks will be smoke-free beginning on February 1. The park includes 73 parks with playgrounds as well as 4 downtown parks. nosmoking

It has always frustrated me when I saw people smoking on playgrounds. I always felt it was rude to be exposing kids to the second-hand smoke and discarded cigarettes on the playground. The smoking ban includes the entire park and not just the playground area. I am happy that I’ll be able to enjoy walks on the park trails without worrying about being behind someone who is smoking.

Included in the 77 parks are Gallup Park, Buhr Park, Veterans Memorial Park, Allmendinger Park, Fuller Park, and Leslie Park as well as the smaller neighborhood playground parks. The Downtown Parks included are: Liberty Plaza, North Main, Kempf House, and Sculpture Plaza. The full list of included parks is available on the City’s website.
